Shark-Mate is a poker talking stool that is very similar to Poker Edge. It’s developed in cooperation with the same software fabricant but it has some important differences that I want to expound. Based on the analysis below you can then make a choice between Poker Edge and SharkMate.

Let’s now go into more detail. Both Poker Edge and SharkMate have a player search feature but SharkMate also has a watch list: you can add the biggest fishes to this list. I like this option. The Table locator of SharkMate somewhat resembles to LobbyEdge, although I think LobbyEdge is better surveyable while with SharkMate you have to search a little while before you find the details about all active tables and you get a little bit too much information (numbers) on your screen to quickly overview the information.
The great thing about SharkMate though is that if you are too lame to search for the best tables yourself with the help of the sharkmate lobby indicator, you can also push the button ‘recommend tables’. SharkMate then searches through the whole lobby and instantly comes up with the best 4 tables you might want to play at. And if you want to check all the tables just press ‘view list’. This is a wonderful idea.

What I further like about SharkMate is that it has an inbuilt calculator. This gives you the option to just play with 1 tool. A reminder though: the Shark Mate inbuilt calculator only gives you instant pot odds and winning percentage but doesn’t compute as many different percentages as Calculatem Pro does. I still advice you to play with an extra pot odds tool, unless you of course multi-table (heavily) and you don’t have the space on your screen to play with more than 1 tool!

The player info: SharkMate gives you exactly the same statistics about the players at your table as PokerEdge. I do however like the Heads up Display of Shark Mate as it is better surveyable and more conveniently arranged.

Another, last great unique in built future that you get when you grab a license of SharkMate, is the ‘collusion detector’. This means that SharkMate also watches whether people are playing together or not. If it does detect or suspect this, it immediately warns you about it. I’ve never seen something like it. The support team has told me that it already detected collusion a couple of times, especially at higher stakes. You got to love this!

Should you commit yourself to Poker Edge or to Shark Mate?
This is a very difficult question to answer. Overall, Poker Edge is the better known software. It has far more users and thus the database is refreshed more easily while SharkMate must do all the scanning itself. When you compare the purchasing options you see a lot of similarities. Although, Shark Mate is free for 6 months, while Poker Edge is free for 3 months.
When we look into the subscription prices we see that Poker Edge is cheaper than SharkMate. Poker Edge costs you between 9.95 – 19.95 a month, while SharkMate is either 15 dollar (compare this to the 9.95 price of Poker Edge) or 29 dollars (compare this to the 19.95 price of Poker Edge) depending on the stakes you play. On the other hand, the Lobby Edge feature in poker edge comes only with an extra 150 dollars, whereas the table selector in SharkMate is already inbuilt!

If it comes to features, shark mate may well have more potential. The inbuilt collusion detector and  calculator surely have added value. Overall the two software programs aren’t that different at all. There are some minor differences but it really comes to personal feelings rather than big distinctions when you must choose between these two pieces of software. So why not take the free trial for three days of both the software programs, let it run for a couple of days, play with it and then judge for yourself!

To have the privilege to know everything about your opponents while they play in the dark against you is just amazing. Your opponent can only guess what you will do, what cards you have and if you are a good or bad player while you know everything for sure based on poker stalking tools that keep track on over 1 million online poker players (their betting patterns, their win/loss rate, their identity, their playing style, their aggression and more) and tens of thousands of poker tables that you can now pre select!

I simply LOVED sharkmate. Heck, I even love this program more than my wife. SharkMate allows me to preselect tables, to find the fish, to play with the fish and to know everything about the fish. Fishing has never been so easy. It’s like sitting in your chair near the river while SharkMate is doing all the work. Really, you rake in pot after pot once you allow SharkMate so sit next to you.

Playing with or without sharkmate is such a big difference. I’ve been playing with this poker tool for over 3 months now and yesterday I decided to play without sharkmate once, just to know what I would miss most. Well I can tell you, all the feelings I had in my beginning days returned. Not knowing where to play, which tables to pick, not knowing where you stand having AK and facing a raise and reraise, simply not knowing who you are player against. It took me just 5 minutes to realize how much I became addicted playing with shark-mate.
